Goal: Enhance empowerment of women and girls of Noakhali district, Bangladesh

Major Activities

  • Access to knowledge & information for beneficiaries collectiveness
  • Capacity building training
  • Event on transformative leadership and life skills building
  • Sensitization/advocacy and awareness events on Gender Equality and Child Marriage
  • Education inputs to adolescent girls
  • Women economic empowerment support to women and girls
  • Counselling  and immediate medical assistance to violence victims

Major Achievements

Organizational Development Initiatives:

  • Developed a succession plan after the training for the executive committee and staff.
  • Developed a policy brief or position paper to combat child marriage in Bangladesh.
  • Developed a videography of the program to inform perspective, persuade, defend a perspective, critique, and observe real life.

Women’s and Girls’ Advocacy:

  • Women and girls raised their voices to claim their rights in the family, public sphere, etc.
  • A member of a women’s group contacted hotline number 109 to prevent physical torture against her.
  • A member of a girl’s group contacted the local thana to prevent domestic violence & sexual harassment against her.
  • Two child marriages were prevented by the girl’s group members.
  • A member of a women’s group approached local government offices to get her sister-in-law’s property rights, and they succeeded.

Beneficiaries’ Engagement in Income-Generating Activities:

  • Two members of the women’s group facilitated skill training on spinning yarn as facilitators.
  • Ten women engaged in spinning yarn activities after receiving skills training.
  • Fifteen women & girls engaged in income-generating activities after receiving Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) support.

Direct & Referral Linkage Supports:

  • Collected dower money amounting to Taka 160,000.00 for two women through mediation & referral linkage support.
  • Thirty adolescent girls are able to continue their studies through scholarship support.
  • Program office arranged VGF (Vulnerable Group Feeding) support for 41 persons (women-35 & girls-6) through referral support.

Initiatives for Network & Alliance:

  • Presented the Deyalika on “Say No to Child Marriage” by the girls’ group members in local secondary schools & madrasha.
  • Formed the child marriage prevention committee “Amrai Rukhbo” in 20 local secondary schools and madrasha.
