Brief: The Shurjer Hashi clinic (Brand Name) project was started in January 2013 and continued up to December 2018. This project was funded by USAID, which was the first financial partner of CWFD during the inception period of CWFD in 1976. From the Operation Research of ICDDR, B and LGRD Ministry of GoB and CWFD, it was revealed that people were interested to receive services from one stop service delivery center at an affordable cost. Thus, with the research result of USAID decided for a new funding mechanism. That was the starting point of clinical program. This program has different names in different phase. The latest name was NGO Health Service Delivery Project (NHSDP).
Goal: The goal of the project was to provide Essential health service delivery in terms of 5 components:
a) Maternal health
b) Child health
c) Communicable disease
d) Limited curative care and
e) Behavioral change communication.
The project was providing clinical health services through 24 clinics to the community people of different 24 area of Dhaka city Corporation and other districts of Bangladesh. The clinics used to provide Preventive health care services by the static, satellite and the community level service providers.
The clinics were situated at:
Dhaka City Corporation: Wari, Tejgaon, Shahjadpur, Begumgonj, Rayer Bazar, Pallabi, Muradpur, Manikdi, Lalbagh, Gandaria and Dayagonj.
Barishal City Corporation: Nabagram and Amanotgonj
Other Districts: Barguna, Tangail, Netrokona, Bhola, Sadar and Gopalpur of Tangail District, Gouronodi, Sadar and Konabari of Gazipur District, Mymensingh, and Jhlokathi.
Major Achievement from Shurjer Hashi:
This project was a sort of continuation from the inception of CWFD, in terms of wider coverage of size, duration, population and geographical areas. CWFD learnt from the Surjer Hashi Clinic how to operate the clinical projects. A major portion of women staff, who developed their professional skills, learnt from Shurjer Hashi. Last but not the least, CWFD could provide essential health services to a huge number of community people through 24 clinics. CWFD still is well-known in the community as one of the health service providers and the rapport built-up with the community people will stay for a long time in future.
Ultimately, all the clinics were transparently and gracefully handed-over to the Shurjer Hashi network in January, 2019.
