Bangladesh national men’s hockey team’s hopes of reaching the final of the AHF Cup Hockey were dashed after they suffered a thrilling 5-4 defeat to Oman in the semifinal held at the GBK Hockey Field in Jakarta, Indonesia on Friday.
Following the defeat, Bangladesh will now face Kazakhstan in the third-place decider, scheduled for Sunday (April 27) at the same venue.
In the intense encounter, Shohanur Rahman struck twice for Bangladesh in the 13th and 54th minutes, while Ashraful Islam and Obaidul netted one goal each in the 24th and 38th minutes, respectively.
Earlier, Bangladesh emerged as Pool B champions with an all-win record in the group stage.
The boys in red and green began their campaign with a dominant 5-1 victory over Kyrgyzstan in the opening match, followed by a hard-fought 3-2 win against hosts Indonesia. They then defeated Thailand 2-1 to confirm their position at the top of the group before concluding the stage with a commanding 5-0 triumph over Sri Lanka.
The AHF Cup also serves as the qualification tournament for the next edition of the Asia Cup.
